Last week we visited the Ontario Butterfly Conservatory and we learned about many different types of butterflies, specifically the beautiful Monarch Butterfly. These amazing species are one of the only butterflies who migrate both north and south, just like birds! Take a look at this cool video and if you're interested, stay on the website and watch some more videos on other amazing insects!

Investigating Symmetry in our Alphabet
A number of capital letters in our alphabet are symmetrical. More specifically, several letters can be reflected across a horiztal or a vertical line going through their centre. In class today we looked at all of the letters of the alphabet, focusing specifically on capital letters and we found that:
- Some have NO lines of symmetry
- Some have 1 line of symmetry
- Some have 2 lines of symmetry
- 1 letter has many lines of symmetry
- Most letters DO NOT have rotational symmetry
- O is in a category of its own
Take a look at the alphabet again and see if you can remember which letters had symmetry.

Solids and Liquids!
In science we are learning about solids and liquids. In class today we talked about the different types of solids that can turn into a liquid, and the liquids that turn into solids. For example example a wax candle melts into a liquid and water freezes into an ice cube. Here is a cool website that shows you some more examples in a fun and interactive way! Once the page opens, click on "change it" which is on the left side. Enjoy!
Something Funny!
If you are bored and want to see something quite funny, watch this Mr. Bean video and see what happens when he goes back to school! I know that Mr. Bean is WAY before your time, but trust me, you will find him great!

Mother's Day is Coming!
Many Canadians celebrate Mother’s Day by showing their appreciation for mothers or mother figures. The Mother’s Day date in Canada is on the second Sunday of May each year, this year is Sunday May 8th. Many people in Canada express their gratitude towards mothers and mother figures on Mother’s Day. Mother figures may include step-mothers, mothers-in-law, guardians (eg. foster parents), and family friends. It is the time for people to thank mothers and mother figures who took the time care for them and help them through life’s challenges. Some people give cards, flowers, or chocolates, and/or make handmade items or special meals on Mother’s Day. Others take their mothers or mother figures to the movies, a restaurant, cafĂ©, or a day in a park. Some mothers and mother figures also receive special gifts such as jewelry, clothing, accessories, and gift vouchers for services or products.

Happy Holidays!
Easter!
Easter is the time for holidays, festivals and a time for giving chocolate Easter eggs.
But Easter means much more....
Easter is the oldest and the most important Christian Festival, the celebration of the death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ. For Christians, the dawn of Easter Sunday with its message of new life is the high point of the Christian year.
Passover!

Passover!
Passover is a Jewish holiday that begins at sunset on the 14th day of the Jewish calendar month "Nisan." This year, Passover begins on April 16th. The holiday celebrates the Jewish people's emancipation from slavery during the Pharaoh's rule in Egypt. It is also a somber remembrance of the hardship that the Jews endured before achieving freedom. During Passover, we eat matzah (unleavened bread).
